Most couples are used to being asked when they plan to have children — but for Sydney-based pair Charli Worgan and her husband Cullen, the question was often why.
Both live with different forms of dwarfism, and from the start of their relationship they’ve faced outside judgment, especially when Charli became pregnant with their first child.
But instead of shying away, Charli chose to share their journey publicly. After welcoming their first daughter, she started an Instagram account to educate others about their life. What began as a way to raise awareness soon grew into a platform with more than 300,000 followers, all drawn to her honesty and positivity.
Today, Charli and Cullen are proud parents of three children — daughters Tilba and Tully, and their youngest, son Rip.
The Risks Behind Every Pregnancy
Every pregnancy has carried immense uncertainty. Because of their genetic conditions, their children could inherit:
-
- Average height genes
-
- Achondroplasia, the same type of dwarfism as Charli
- Geleophysic Dysplasia, the same type as Cullen
- Both forms of dwarfism simultaneously — a rare “double dominant” condition that doctors say is fatal at birth
This meant that every time Charli was pregnant, she faced heart-wrenching genetic testing. At just 12 weeks, instead of celebrating like many mothers, she underwent Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) — a procedure involving a long needle inserted through the abdomen to test the placenta. It carries a small but very real risk of miscarriage.
Charli described those weeks of waiting as agonizing: “I was waiting to find out if I can bring this little one into the world, or if his or her journey finishes here.”
Facing Criticism and Choosing Hope
By sharing her story, Charli has also faced criticism from people who question her decision to have children despite the odds. But she remains steadfast in her belief that their choices come from love and careful consideration.
“It’s not a simple decision,” she explained. “Those who doubt can see it’s about so much more than chance. It’s about kindness, hope, and love.”
Welcoming Baby Rip
In February 2021, Charli gave birth to their son Rip, completing their family of five. Exhausted but overjoyed, she wrote:
“I’m tired, but I’m ever so grateful and lucky. There’s no ‘right’ way to do motherhood — but there’s certainly no wrong way either.”
An Inspiration for Parents Everywhere
Through the ups and downs, Charli and Cullen’s story shows that parenthood is never about perfection — it’s about resilience, laughter, and unconditional love.
Like any other family, they face challenges, but their journey proves that joy can thrive even in the most difficult circumstances.
Charli’s openness continues to inspire thousands of parents who see themselves reflected in her struggles and triumphs.
✨ Here’s wishing this beautiful family health, happiness, and endless love as they continue their journey together.
