Dirty Dancing is one of my all-time favorite movies – I’ve probably watched it at least 50 times!
Every scene, every move, every song is etched into my memory. I thought I’d seen and read everything about this magical film – but lately, deleted scenes have come to light.
And if you look closely, the forgotten frames reveal something we all suspected…
Dirty Dancing is not just a movie; it’s an experience that perfectly shows young love and the strong chemistry between the characters.
Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey had amazing chemistry on screen, creating sparks that made every dance and every look unforgettable. Their bond is what makes this film a true classic. No one danced like Patrick, and Jennifer brought the character “Baby” to life in a way that no one else could.
But here’s something you might not know: there’s a deleted scene that many fans haven’t seen. It’s a moment that adds something special to the story, making the magic even deeper. Want to know what’s been kept secret all this time?
Deleted scene
A hidden treasure from Dirty Dancing has recently appeared online, showing a beautiful, intimate moment between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. This one-minute clip, shared by a YouTube channel called “Jamie Jones,” gives fans a rare look at a scene that didn’t make it into the final version of the movie.
In this deleted scene, Johnny (played by Patrick Swayze) teaches Baby (Jennifer Grey) a dance routine for their big performance at the Shelldrake.
Many fans think they remember the scene — or believe they do — but it’s actually not in the movie. In the video’s description, the uploader says, “Production had to cut scenes because of time, budget, and to make room for the unforgettable Mickey and Sylvia ‘Love is Strange’ scene that was kept in the movie.”
What’s really touching about this clip is that Patrick and Jennifer thought they were just practicing, not knowing the camera was on.
Patrick Swayze was a real star, and in this rare, deleted scene, he wasn’t even acting. This was Swayze’s true spirit — moving gracefully, spreading happiness, and showing his love for dance.
Found something special
It’s important to remember that Patrick Swayze had been dancing since he could walk. With his mom running a dance studio in Houston, he grew up surrounded by dance, which made him super skilled and professional in what he did.
The comments under the video really show his influence. One viewer said, “It’s always such a joy to watch Patrick Swayze dance. He moved so beautifully and effortlessly. He was a natural.”
One fan perfectly described the charm of this deleted scene, saying, “The fact that in this world Johnny had to take time out of his day like a real teacher to make a sign is funny to me for some reason lol, and also the fact that Baby is wearing her cardigan over her outfit is just so fitting for her character. I love this deleted scene; it really shows a lot about both of their characters in such a short clip.”
For those who loved the chemistry between Patrick and Jennifer, the deleted scene uploaded by Jamie Jones gives a peek into their natural charm together. The production team also fell in love with the warmth and fun between them. It was obvious they had found something special, but sadly, this sweet rehearsal moment was left out.
There are many reasons why scenes get cut from movies, like time limits, relevance, quality problems, or a dropped story line. Budget issues can also be a factor.
Baby in her bra
The dance scene between Patrick and Jennifer isn’t the only moment that was cut from the film.
For example, there’s one scene where Johnny dances with Baby while she’s in her bra. This moment was cut from the theatrical version but can be found among the deleted scenes in the special features of the 25th Anniversary Edition DVD.
In the scene, Baby dances erotically with Johnny while wearing her underwear.
Big lift was never rehearsed
Choreographer Kenny Ortega used the real-life relationship between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey to make Johnny and Baby’s chemistry better on-screen.
“They both contributed so much every day,” Ortega shared with People in 2017. “Sometimes it was about conflict; other times it was about love. There was something between them that was hard to explain. They were like human fireworks.”
However, even though a lot of the dance scenes were planned and practiced, there was one surprising thing. Do you remember that big lift at the end? It was never practiced.
“I only did it on the day I filmed it,” the actress said in an interview with The Guardian. “I never practiced it, and I haven’t done it since.”
“I would never practice the lift — I was too scared. The day you see me do it in the movie is the first time I did it,” Grey told SELF about the famous lift. She also mentioned, “I don’t know how all those people who recreate it have the courage to jump into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze.”
”Not about the sensuality”
Whether it’s a surprising dance move or a touching moment, these lost scenes show us why we adore Dirty Dancing so much.
In a chat with AFI, Patrick Swayze talked about why the movie has lasted for so long. “To me, it’s got so much heart,” he mentioned.
“It’s not just about the sensuality; it’s really about people trying to discover themselves—this young dance teacher feeling like he’s just a product, and this young girl figuring out who she is in a world full of limits when she has such a unique perspective.”
As we think about the chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing, it’s obvious that their connection brought the film to life in a way that still touches us today.
Their relationship was not only about the dance moves; it was about the real bond they had, which made every moment feel true and heartfelt.
You can really see this chemistry shine in the deleted scenes, showing even more of their amazing connection.
Let’s take a moment to honor Patrick Swayze, whose amazing talent and charm left a lasting impression on movies. He gave us unforgettable performances, and his legacy will always be cherished in our hearts.
